Faaiza Omar, also known as The Stylish Baker, is a trained skincare therapist with a passion for patisserie. She began baking more than 20 years ago and haven’t stopped.
Her infatuation with perfecting the art of macaron making, got her hooked onto French pastries. She began experimenting with different flavours and techniques, posting her sweet treats and recipes on her Instagram account. As travel is a huge part of her baking inspiration, she included her travel diaries and some style posts too.
What led you to found The Stylish Baker brand?
I started out experimenting with patisserie, attending many patisserie masterclasses abroad. I then shared my successes with my Instagram followers and they were intrigued. Many wanted to purchase the specialised tools and ingredients I used to recreate their own version of these delicacies. Initially, when my sister and I launched the online pastry supply store, there was a growing demand from bakers to learn advanced french pastry techniques – thus we began the pastry school.
What have been some of your most notable challenges and successes?
Winning the Lancewood Bake-off was the cherry on top, I appeared on national TV and gained many fans. Entering a complete novel market, educating the public on the ingredients we used, and specialised pastry techniques were challenging.
Where do you draw inspiration for your treats?
I’m inspired by my travels and the exotic flavours I encounter along the way.
What do you love most about what you do?
Not only does the process of baking improve my mood, but the feeling of satisfaction also gained when seeing the end product naturally enhances happiness. I’ve created something tangible that can be enjoyed and shared, giving me a sense of achievement. Then there’s the joy that comes from seeing success, with a recipe I’ve shared.
If you could bake for any 3 people, who would they be and what would you make?
Queen Rania of Jordan – I would make her rose, raspberry and pistachio gâteau.
Oprah Winfrey – I would make a New York-style cheesecake with berries.
Chrissy Teigen – I’d make her something wickedly decadent.
Any advice/tips for business/life?
No matter what you do and where you go, you can’t go wrong with adding value. Follow your passion. Develop positive habits. Persevere – the word ‘can’t’ does not exist in my vocabulary.
