A weekend of wellness at Cascade Country Manor & Spa

Nestled neatly between commanding Klein Drakenstein Mountains, with greenery as far as the eye can see, Cascade Country Manor & Spa offers visitors a tranquil setting – and the perfect country getaway.

I arrived at the 4-star Cascade Country Manor & Spa, a member of Cape Country Routes, just as dinner was being served. Upon entering the laid-back, but luxurious establishment, I am taken by the old-world charm of the dining room. High ceilings, impressive furniture and a cosy fire to ward off the last of those winter chills…

Not hard to believe that this private retreat, situated on 23 hectares amid olive orchards and vineyards, was once a royal homestead, which has since been converted into an elegant country manor.

The 12-seater dinner table is laid out beautifully, and my fellow travellers and I engage in some light chatter. With delicious food accompanied and complemented by great wine, the evening turns into a lekker kuier before the travels of the day take its toll and we swiftly make our way to our rooms.

Rooms

The manor consists of 15 luxurious rooms – all individually designed – and each with a private patio or balcony. The en-suite bathroom has a shower and a bath: I spent my Friday evening soaking and enjoying the therapeutic sounds of the water fountain just outside my room. Washing off the stress of the day, the stillness at Cascade Country Manor & Spa brought about a quiet comfort – something that I’ve been needing after a hectic and busy couple of weeks.

Restaurant

Having arrived at night, I was unable to see the glorious setting which I found myself in the next day. Heading to breakfast, I am taken by the exquisite surrounds: We sit on the wide, open patio overlooking the impressive swimming pool and gorgeous green grass, with the sound of the waterfall not too far away. We enjoy a scrumptious breakfast, while an outside fire keeps us warm (you have a choice of a buffet, light meals and freshly prepared set menus in the manor’s upmarket restaurant).

Lunch was a grand affair: a harvest-table style picnic enjoyed in the company of olive orchards. My fellow visitors and I were giddy with excitement at the prospect of getting to taste the delicious spread before us.

Harvest table

The lunch menu included olives, tapenade from green and dark olives, roasted olives marinated in a balsamic reduction, chorizo in red wine, over roasted vegetable variety, a tower of labneh decorated with olives and peppers, a salami platter, hummus of chickpeas, tabuli salad (a Lebanese summer salad where the main ingredient is parsley and fresh lemon).

The dessert was a delicious vanilla cinnamon swirl covered in strawberry sauce.

This picnic-style lunch can be requested for special occasions such as birthdays, engagements, kitchen teas, etc.

Spa date

I was fortunate to enjoy a relaxing neck and back massage at the intimate wellness centre (I only realised HOW MUCH I needed it once the very capable masseuse worked her magic on my stressed-induced knots).

Guests can book an array of wellness treatments to pamper and revive the body and mind. To add to the already special setting, you have the option of indulging in an outdoor massage at the waterfall – pure bliss.
