{"id":1821,"date":"2020-11-17T05:49:23","date_gmt":"2020-11-17T05:49:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/?p=1821"},"modified":"2020-11-17T05:49:23","modified_gmt":"2020-11-17T05:49:23","slug":"diemersfontein-adds-family-friendly-deli-to-its-fine-wine-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/index.php\/2020\/11\/17\/diemersfontein-adds-family-friendly-deli-to-its-fine-wine-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Diemersfontein adds family-friendly deli to its fine wine experience"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new family and pet-friendly dining experience has opened at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.diemersfontein.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">Diemersfontein<\/a>, the celebrated wine and country estate in Wellington just 40 km from Cape Town\u2019s northern suburbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Called PROE, the deli-style offering provides visitors with the broadest choice of top-quality charcuterie, goat and cow\u2019s milk cheeses, fresh bread, preserves and more to be enjoyed in a laid-back setting \u2013 as a picnic on the shaded lawns or at a table in PROE\u2019s air-conditioned venue. As can be expected, Diemersfontein\u2019s award-winning wines remain very much part of the mix and in fact, are even more so at PROE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPROE means \u2018taste\u2019 in Afrikaans and as such, reflects not only local cultural flair, but also the all-round epicurean offering that awaits visitors,\u201d says Diemersfontein sales and marketing manager Hannelize Louw. \u201cThis is a wine and food experience that lets visitors select what <em>they\u2019d<\/em> prefer to enjoy with their wine. You get exactly what you want, and in the amount that you decide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The produce available at PROE is sourced locally and showcases many of the quality food brands people know, but perhaps never associated with Wellington and its immediate surrounds. Supporting local also means Diemersfontein can keep its carbon footprint low and in line with goals for environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors to PROE first make a selection from the deli, then hand their baskets to a waiter for plating and serving wherever they choose to enjoy their meal. Both the deli seating and shady lawns below provide views from the elevated estate across the farm dam to adjoining lands with ducks, horses and cattle, and the mountains beyond. Large, colourful picnic blankets are available for use by visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Included in the smorgasbord on offer is a wide selection of cheeses and charcuterie \u2013 including children\u2019s ever-popular cheddar and hickory ham; delicious cold-smoked trout and other flavoursome cold cuts; olives; a range of natural fruit juices and artisanal cordials; a diverse variety of preserves made from amongst others caramelised onions and wine grape varieties; honey; flavoured salts and spices; snacks like fynbos-infused shortbread; and, freshly baked bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diemersfontein also has its own bottled water \u2013 sparkling and still; and extra virgin olive oil produced from its own olive grove. A newly established garden will soon provide PROE with organically grown vegetables as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diemersfontein wines are perfectly suited to the deli experience and include reds and whites, from easy-drinking styles to heavier, more complex versions. Alongside Pinotage for which Diemersfontein is renowned, the Chenin blanc, Ros\u00e9 and Sauvignon blanc are as likely to be the favourites over the summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"660\" src=\"http:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/PROE-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1823\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/PROE-3.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/PROE-3-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/PROE-3-768x507.jpg 768w, https:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/PROE-3-650x429.jpg 650w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe deli space doubles as Diemersfontein&#8217;s wine tasting centre, so it\u2019s the perfect place to enjoy a pairing before committing to a single wine,\u201d says deli manager Johann Olivier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wine and brandy pairing features three red wines and Diemersfontein\u2019s 10 year potstill brandy, paired with custom-made toffees, nougat and chocolate truffles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The kiddies needn\u2019t feel left out \u2013 there\u2019s a non-alcoholic pairing of four cordials to enjoy.
