Commenting on the representation of people of colour in the wine industry in South Africa, Tshabangu said that she believes there is enough representation, “despite this being a new industry that we have ventured into”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “For the longest time, the wine industry was seen as a luxury and for those with big names,” she said, “but now the narrative has changed and we \u2018people of colour\u2019 can now have a [seat] at the table and expose our communities to such fine wines.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her advice to aspiring winemakers is to always remember why they started the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “It isn\u2019t an easy boat to ride, but consistency is key. Also, remember to begin with the end in mind.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Quick-fire Q&A<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n What is your favourite varietal and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It is [Esa’s] 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon; I love the smoothness that comes from the dark fruit flavor.
