{"id":520,"date":"2020-05-25T12:57:39","date_gmt":"2020-05-25T12:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/?p=520"},"modified":"2020-05-26T07:51:45","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T07:51:45","slug":"honest-country-hospitality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/index.php\/2020\/05\/25\/honest-country-hospitality\/","title":{"rendered":"Honest country hospitality"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dating from the 1870s and rebuilt in the 1920s, the rural art deco 4-star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montagucountryhotel.co.za\/\">Montagu Country Hotel<\/a> in Montagu on South Africa\u2019s scenic Route 62, offers classic country comforts, friendly service, traditional cuisine and classic and luxury accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Montagu Hotel, a member of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capecountryroutes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cape Country Routes<\/a>, was founded in 1996 during a time when there was no tourism to speak of in the sleepy town. Realising travellers\u2019 need to get to and through Montagu, PJ Basson \u2013 general manager of the hotel \u2013 and his partner founded Route 62, the historic highway that connects Cape Town and the Garden Route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With its catchy name and similarities to Route 66 in the US, it instantly became a hit with media and tour operators alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hotel is built in an art deco style, complete with furnishings and trinkets from that period. The hotel has been shut for two months and, Basson notes, the financial impact has been massive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI believe the whole industry is in for some changes. We have the time and opportunity now to assess the whole business and carefully plan our path for the future. I believe we will continue and expand our local business, but will also strengthen our relationships with international operators,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople will always have the need to travel. And, as a product, we must be ready once travel is fully allowed again.
