{"id":550,"date":"2020-05-27T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/?p=550"},"modified":"2020-05-28T00:19:19","modified_gmt":"2020-05-28T00:19:19","slug":"first-whale-sightings-at-de-hoop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atableforone.co.za\/index.php\/2020\/05\/27\/first-whale-sightings-at-de-hoop\/","title":{"rendered":"First whale sightings at De Hoop"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Whoop De (W)Hoop!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first whales of&nbsp;the&nbsp;season have just been sighted at De Hoop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGreat excitement!&nbsp;We\u2019ve spotted the first whales of the season\u201d,&nbsp;said William Stephens of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dehoopcollection.com\/\" class=\"rank-math-link\">De Hoop Collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe usual season for whales is between June\/July and November \u2013 this is when the southern right whales migrate from Antarctica to breed and raise their calves \u2013 so it\u2019s exciting seeing them now, especially in this rather bleak time of COVID-19\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Hoop Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area in the Overberg region is world renowned as one the best spotS for shore-based whale watching in South Africa.&nbsp;Situated&nbsp;in the heart of the magnificent reserve is&nbsp;De Hoop Collection&nbsp;\u2013 a member of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capecountryroutes.com\/\" class=\"rank-math-link\">Cape Country Routes<\/a> \u2013  which offers a wide range of budget-wise accommodation options \u2013 from affordable self-catering chalets to upmarket catered lodges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The marine protected area extends three nautical miles out to sea from the coastline and is a haven for breeding whales and their calves.
