Tiffany Bertossi, the owner of Crema Nail and Beauty Lounge<\/a> in Johannesburg, studied therapeutic aroma therapy at college and has been in the industry for 16 years. One of her biggest goals when opening her salon was to make sure that it engaged with all five senses to ensure an enhanced and lasting experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiffany has aroma burners around the salon and uses the same\u00a0essential oil in all her signature products, like hand and foot soaks, massage creams, lotions, scrubs and even the paraffin wax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo not only do you have this very subtle and pretty fragrance around you during your treatment, but it stays with you once you\u2019ve left,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd if you happen to smell it somewhere else, the first thing or place you will think of is Crema, and the wonderful calm space we have created and the relaxing and pleasant experience you had with us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The salon uses geranium oil, one of Tiffany\u2019s favourites \u2013 also known as lady oil. \u201cWhen using it medicinally, so in our case topically, geranium oil works as an anti-inflammatory and anti-septic agent. It is also known to enhance circulation, soothe symptoms of menstruation and menopause, reduce blood pressure and pain, and boost immunity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    There is scientific data indicating that it may be beneficial for a number of conditions, she says, such as anxiety, depression, infection, and pain management. It\u2019s thought to have antibacterial and antioxidant properties as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When using it in a diffuser, geranium oil can promote emotional stability, enhance one\u2019s mood, and can sometimes be used as an insect repellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u201cIn general, it can help you feel more relaxed and settle your emotions. This is great during stressful times and definitely helps us create a calm, soothing and warm working environment for our staff, as well as our clients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
